Courtney is 4 years old, and a loving big sister to 21-month old Macy Rebecca.
She was diagnosed in February 2007 with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Courtney is currently being treated at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute,
and she really likes her caregivers there.
Her parents struggled at first to find the words to tell their precious girl what was happening to her,
but found a metaphor she's been able to grasp very well.
They told her "Leukemia is your mountain, and you must climb it.
A mountain can be hard sometimes, and sometimes the climbing tires you out, but the peak is beautiful.
No one can carry you up the mountain, but we will hold your hand every step of the way."
If you meet her and want to be inspired, ask her how she climbs her mountain.
While everything cancer patients go through can break your heart,
it is also undeniable that cancer has made her a far stronger person
than her parents ever could have hoped to create without such adversity.
Courtney loves to dance; she was enrolled in tap classes for about six weeks
before her body started to slow down prior to her diagnosis.
She still loves to dance and imitates any and every dance move she sees on TV - -
from the teletubbies shakin' and wobblin' to Barbie doing ballet!
Nothing brings out her smile like a ballet dress and sparkly dance shoes.
She really enjoys going to the park, singing, riding her scooter,
doing jigsaw puzzles (she's VERY good at these, even difficult ones!),
dressing up like a disney princess, reading books, painting, coloring, and play-acting.
Courtney lives in Medfield, MA where she will hopefully attend kindergarten in the fall of 2008.
She really likes school and bible class and is excited about going back.
She's a giver, very assertive, but a thoroughly sweet and kind hearted soul.
